The process of installing FOSC

Step 1 – Open the Closure

Cleaning the locale and determining where to install the FOSC, and then placing the fiber cables required.

Check whether the main components and accessories have been well prepared inside the package.

Open the closure
Unscrew fixing bolts and open the closure by lifting the unscrewed bolts with no need completely unbolting to avoid losing.
See Drawing 1

Important: If the weather conditions are not good enough, then a tent must be pitched for waterproof and dustproof.

Step 2 – Determine Cable Length to be Fixed and Stripped

① Fiber cable in 55mm length: the distance from the seal fitting to the fiber cable pressboard
② Fiber cable in 2020mm length: used to be wound and spliced after stripping
③ Fiber with protective coat in 420mm length: from fthe ixing point to the FOST
④ Fiber in 1600mm length: to be wound inside the FOST after splicing

See Drawing 2

Important:

Reserve enough fiber cable length to be spliced.

Stripping length may vary depending on customer requirements.

Step 3 – Strip Protective Coat from Fiber Cable and Fiber

Strip off the protective coat from the temp. locating the mark with the cutter and stripper (see Drawing 2 for reference).

See Drawing 3

Important: If difficult to pull all at once, strip section by section to avoid fiber breakage.

Step 4 – Separate Fiber Cores and Prepare for Fixing

Wind 2 layers of insulation tape on the fiber core's protective coat, clean stuffing, and form a 100mm ring fixed with adhesive tape.

The FOSC has six ports; choose the number of ports according to your needs and remove the corresponding plugs. Max 6 cables.

Suitable diameters:

Port A: max. Ø20mm

Port B: max. Ø16mm

Port C: max. Ø13mm

Use sealing tape if the cable diameter is smaller than the port. Measure with the provided paper (Hole A, B, C).

Reserve a 40mm reinforced core and cut off the excess.

See Drawing 4

GJS-H009 Horizontal Closure installation 04

Important:

Scratch and clean the cable with an abrasive cloth and ethyl alcohol before applying sealing tape.

Cut reinforced core using special cutting pliers.

Step 5 – Fix Reinforced Core and Fiber Cable

Remove port plugs, pressboard, and fixing nut of reinforced core.

Tighten the fiber cable pressboard. Enlarge the diameter with insulation tape if needed.

Tighten the reinforced core nut first with a plastic wrench, then with a metal wrench.

See Drawing 5

Important: Ensure stripped fiber cable fits into fixing ports; adjust if needed to avoid poor installation.

Step 6 – Splice Fibers

Follow the fusion splicing machine user manual.
Important: Avoid excessive twisting or bending of fibers.

Step 7 – Install Heat Shrink Sleeve and House Fibers

After splicing, place the first fiber ring at the farthest end of the FOST, wind the rest (≥80mm diameter), and place it with the sleeve into the tray.

Fix the sleeve first, then adjust the fiber ring diameter.

See Drawing 6

Important: Avoid fiber twist or sharp bends.

Step 8 – Comprehensive Check

Ensure fibers are spliced and installed orderly, with proper curvature.

Tighten internal components.

Unused ports must be plugged.

Apply seal tape properly and neatly.

Seal the cover correctly.

See Drawing 7

Step 9 – Assemble FOSC Housing

Place the cover on the bottom of FOSC.

Insert and fix two insert plates in the slot.

Insert and tighten two locating bolts.

For aerial use, attach the hanging hook and tighten side bolts; otherwise, tighten four corner bolts.

See Drawing 8

Important: Clean the housing and follow the sequence strictly.

Step 10 – Fix FOSC

Fix the FOSC and tighten bolts as per Drawing 9.

Important:

Retighten after 5 minutes.

Tighten evenly to prevent deformation.
