2. Installation Process for Dome Heat Shrinkable Seal Fiber Optic Splice Closure (FOSC)

2.1 Step One – Open the Closure

2.1.1 Clean the area and determine the FOSC installation location. Place the required fiber cables in the installation zone.

2.1.2 Check that all main components and accessories listed in the package are prepared.

2.1.3 Open the closure:
① Loosen the hoop fixing bolts and remove the hoop locking system.
② Pull the FOSC cover upwards to remove it and begin the installation.

2.1.4 Refer to Drawing 1.

Important: If the weather is poor, pitch a tent for waterproofing and dust prevention.

2.2 Step Two – Determine the Length of Fiber Cable to Fix and Strip

2.2.1 Cable length guidelines:
① Fiber cable: 110 mm (from small gasket ring to cable pressboard).
② Fiber cable: 1720 mm (to be wound and spliced after stripping).
③ Fiber with protective coat: 120 mm (from fiber cable fixing point to fiber optic splice tray fixing point).
④ Fiber (without protective coat): 1600 mm (to be wound inside the FOST after splicing).

2.2.2 Refer to Drawing 2.

dome closure fiber optic GJS-D007 china2

Important:

Reserve sufficient cable length for splicing.

Stripping lengths can be adjusted according to actual installation requirements.

2.3 Step Three – Strip the Protective Coat of Fiber Cable and Fiber

2.3.1 Using a cutter and stripper, remove the protective coat starting from the temporary locating mark (refer to Drawing 2 for stripping length).

2.3.2 Refer to Drawing 3.

dome closure fiber optic GJS-D007 china3

Important: If the coat is hard to remove all at once, strip it section by section to avoid fiber breakage.

2.4 Step Four – Separate Fiber Cores and Prepare for Cable Fixation

2.4.1 Wind two layers of insulation tape around the protective coat for protection. Remove filler materials, separate and clean fiber cores. Form a ring (approx. 100 mm diameter) and temporarily secure with adhesive tape.

2.4.2 Reserve a 50 mm length of reinforced core and cut off the excess.

2.4.3 Refer to Drawing 4.

Important: Choose the correct inlet/outlet tubes for easy splicing and sealing.

2.5 Step Five – Fix Reinforced Core, Shrink, and Seal Fiber Cable

2.5.1 The FOSC has four inlet/outlet tubes, suitable for one fiber cable with a maximum diameter of 16 mm.

2.5.2 After determining the inlet/outlet count, disassemble the nut, gasket, and gasket ring according to the cable diameter. Insert them sequentially onto the fiber cable, then insert the cable into the inlet/outlet tube and tighten the nut for a proper seal.

2.5.3 For smaller cable diameters, wrap seal tape around the small gasket ring to enlarge the diameter (measure with paper).

2.5.4 Fix the fiber cable to the fixing seat and secure it with the pressboard. If needed, use insulation tape to enlarge the diameter at the fixing seat.

2.5.5 Loosen the reinforced core fixing nut using a special plastic wrench. Insert the reinforced core into the fixing slot, tighten the nut, and retighten with a metal wrench (provided by the installer).

2.5.6 Refer to Drawing 5.

Important: Ensure the reinforced core fixing nut is properly tightened.

2.6 Step Six – Splice Fibers

2.6.1 Follow the splicing machine user manual to complete fiber splicing.

Important: Handle fiber twists and bends carefully.

2.7 Step Seven – Install Heat Shrinkable Protective Sleeve and Arrange Fibers

2.7.1 After splicing, place the first fiber ring at the farthest position in the FOST. Wind the remaining fiber into rings with a diameter not less than 80 mm and place them in the FOST along with the heat-shrinkable sleeve. First, fix the heat-shrinkable sleeve in the slot, then enlarge the fiber ring diameter as needed.

2.7.2 Refer to Drawing 6.

dome closure fiber optic GJS-D007 china6

Important: Avoid excessive twists and bends in the fiber.

2.8 Step Eight – Comprehensive Check

2.8.1 Secure fibers with protective coat using nylon ties at the FOST entrance.

2.8.2 Press the grommet from inside to outside to properly install the FOST.

2.8.3 If there is reserved fiber with a protective coat, wind it in the fiber holding tray.

2.8.4 Check that all internal fasteners and the reinforced core are tightened.

2.8.5 Ensure the gasket ring is neatly installed without damage. Use seal tape to level it if needed.

2.8.6 Refer to Drawing 7.

dome closure fiber optic GJS-D007 china7

Important: Address any issues immediately.

2.9 Step Nine – Assemble and Fix the FOSC Housing

2.9.1 Place the FOSC cover directly onto the base.

2.9.2 Install the plastic hoop between the cover and the base, tighten the hoop locking system, and secure it with the fixing bolt.

2.9.3 Retighten all plastic nuts on the base.

2.9.4 FOSC installation methods:
Aerial application: Fix the metal hoop and transom to the pole (see Drawing 8).
Wall mounting: Fix the bracket to the wall with M8 bolts (metal hoop not needed).
Underground application: A Metal hoop is not required.

2.9.5 Refer to Drawing 8.

Important:

Pay attention while installing the plastic hoop.

Wall-mounting bolts are M8 in size.
